Bullara Ladies Campout – Update # 1

Bullara Bull Bar
Looking over the Lodge

The Bullara Ladies Campout is coming together nicely and we are all starting to get just a little bit excited!

Firstly, is the huge news that Ningaloo Cooking Studio will be doing the catering for the event. And the menu is pretty WOW! We are also lucky enough to be doing a roast of some amazing organic Bullara Beef over the spit. This is such a treat. Along with all the wonderful goodies that Ningaloo Cooking Studio are serving, I for one, am looking forward to sharing this meal with everyone.

Lunch on Saturday is a plethora of healthy choices (in readiness for all the delishishness of the Saturday night feast!!), so those ladies who are vegetarian are not to feel left out.

So many food goodies on offer, too many to mention. But no one will starve that’s for sure! Not to forget our scone baking session on Saturday morning. I’m drooling already. Enough about the food!

The ‘Events’ calendar is also taking shape. (now that the important part of the catering is sorted!!). So keep an eye out on our Facebook page for all the news of the various events. Loosely speaking though, we are organising yoga, pilates, paper craft, wine tasting, scone making, an art session,…. and then for those who wish to, bring your mountain bikes and head out onto the tracks. The events are not compulsory, so if you just want to come and chill out and escape, then no one is going to harass you to do anything more!

All the rooms and cottages are now fully booked. But there is loads of camping space, and for those of you who are in need of assistance with setting up your camp, then let us know so that we can all get in on the fun.

You will need to ring Bullara Station Stay to book your site. We also suggest that you purchase your tickets as soon as possible as well. This will help us immensely with catering numbers, but we also only have a certain quantity of tickets. We have sold 1/3 so far and have 6 weeks to go.

This event will grow in momentum every year, and so we urge you to schedule your calendars for the last weekend in October for 2019. The Bullara Ladies Campout is a weekend of fun and games, great food, awesome company, and a heap of laughs. You dont need to be a C.W.A member to attend. This event is a child free event. (but we do understand that some mothers with small infants may need to bring their babies.)

Informal October Meeting – Minutes

October Notes from Cheese and Beverage Afternoon at Bullara Station Campout

Please note that this was not a formal meeting as we did not have enough members to reach a quorum and we really were just having a few beverages and decided to ‘have a meeting’! Nothing of much importance was discussed and other than deciding on a date to get together for our next social event, no formal decisions were made or voted upon.

Much conversation was had regarding a Christmas/December themed fundraising event. Here are some ideas we came up with:

  • setting up a stall at the Christmas Markets (dates unknown) and selling some heat resistant, non perishable items. Shortbreads, mango chutney, any edible gifts, decorations or crafty things. This will however require members to staff the stand and it will also require members to make things for the stand.
  • It would seem that Trish Deering (member) has a son Mark who is Mr August in the Firemans Calendar! We also thought that we could dress Mark  in a Santas hat and trousers and we could get people to pay to have their photos taken with him! This was a very popular idea as you can imagine. This would also be done at the Christmas Markets.
  • Another idea was to sell an online Christmas recipe booklet with members providing their best christmas meals and stories with photos etc. We would them sell the Ebooks online.
  • Brody Sutton (Nikki’s son, Nikki joined us over the weekend) is a very highly regarded Cocktail maker. We weren’t entirely sure whether we wanted to utilise Brody as part of a fundraiser, or if we just wanted to get him along to give us some demonstrations and class, but we were all (naturally) very keen to get the cocktails flowing! We would need to book Brody for something sooner than later as he is possibly travelling soon. It maybe a January item to consider. Feedback please.

Whatever we do for Christmas fundraising we all agreed that it needs to be simple this year, as we are time poor and need to get onto something relatively quickly.

I had another idea in the interim: that maybe we could do something and tie it into our dinner at Whalers on the 14th of November (you all received an email recently with the dates and info). Maybe if we offered to make some complimentary petit fours or we donated some thing foodie/crafty to each table on the night of the 14th, with a little note saying something cheesy like ” this little gift has been donated by the loud women on table 10 from the Exmouth CWA branch. Should you wish to reciprocate by way of a cash donation at checkout, please drop your change or notes into the cake tin provided.” Obviously would have to get permission from Paul, and its just a rough idea of how it could work. But just thinking about things we can do which will not be too taxing. I know its a full on time of year for most of us!

Speaking of Christmas….we were thinking that for NEXT Christmas (or even Christmas in July) it may be nice if we could organise a free meal for some of our older more isolated members of the community. Give them a free meal and some social contact. Possibly at the Truscott was discussed. Something to work towards.

June Jumble Sale

We will be going ahead with our main fundraising event next June. The Jumble sale will not only be a giant sale of household items and general brica brak, it will also be donations from local business, and shops wishing to offload items for sale prior to End of Financial year. After January we will have an empty donga sitting in our yard at 13 Griffiths Way, and I am happy to store items in there until June, but would obviously prefer if I didnt receive goods until after Cyclone season preferably. Please contact Helen for more details.

I will be doing up a flyer now which I will distribute to businesses via the Chamber of commerce. But if in your daily goings about, if you could please be mindful of items that we could sell or auction off for the Jumble in June then please be mindful. We do not wish to conflict with Mrs Macs, so no clothes at the Jumble in June please.

RFDS Meal Tickets

It was noted that the hospital is no longer funding meals for the RFDS, (Trish maybe better at explaining this as I dont want to get it wrong as to why not!)… but it was all agreed that it would be a great use of our CWA funds to purchase meal tickets for the RFDS medics for when they arrive and are on the hop and have no food and no time to get any. Trish Deering was going to look into this with the Hospital to see viability. If you have any comments to make regarding this, please do so.

Looking forward to any feedback and responses.

Helen
